Probationary AFO Handbook!
Probationary AFO Handbook!
Welcome to SCO-19! As of now you have been placed into the division as a ‘Probationary Authorised Firearms Officer’ better known as a ‘Probationary AFO’.
After passing your SCO19 Intake Training, you will be placed onto a 2 week probationary period. This is split into two parts.
Part 1 is a one week trial, this means that you are being observed and watched to make sure you are settling in well with the division. Any form of punishment will result in a removal from the division at this stage. Punishments that can lead to a removal at this stage could include:
MPS Punishment (T1, T2, T3 etc)
Not hitting hours
Failing to appear to mandatory trainings
Bad attitude
The second part is the end of your Probationary Period, this means you will spend another week at ‘pAFO’ in order for you to settle in correctly. After the two weeks have been completed and we as command feel you are ready, and once assault rifle training is completed you will be promoted to AFO.
Ridealong
As a new member of SCO-19, A Probationary Authorised Firearms officer, you will need to complete 3 hours worth of “Ride Alongs” with an SFO+ before you can pass your trial and be promoted to AFO.
The ride alongs can be completed at any stage of the week trial, however it is recommended that you attempt to do it as early as possible to make full effect of this protocol.
This is to ensure that you can settle into their role more easily, and experience SCO directly with experienced members.
We hope that this will cut the “learning curve” of a Probationary AFO, and thus immediately work to increase the standards of SCO-19 by all of its members being equally knowledgeable of proper conduct in any given scenario.
As previously mentioned, the ride along can be completed by anyone ranking SFO or above, however we would ask that you do not go straight to an OFC to request a ride along as they have many responsibilities week to week.
The ride alongs will be tracked using this sheet:
